Mikaela Quotes

Today after everyone had piled in the car and things quieted down a little, we hear, "So... as I was saying..."

This afternoon she was working on a puzzle while I was cleaning/organizing, and I hear, "Little help, here."

Communication is Key

Communication is key and Nicholas is learning quite well how to do it.

Mike was holding Nick in the kitchen.  It was approaching dinner time.  Nicholas began to sign eat (closed hand/flat o to the mouth).  So as to be sure Mike didn't miss it (he was talking to me on the phone) he signed "eat" not to his mouth, but to Mike's.   So cute!

It was approaching bed time and Nicholas got his blanket and his sippy and started taking both towards his room, stopped only by the gate.  I opened it and he proceeded to go towards his room.  I guess he was ready for bed.  Love that boy!

Conversations

At dinner one night, Mike and I were talking about our days while the kids were eating.  Mikaela was jabbering on about one thing or another, not really talking to us, just talking.   Mike said something, but I wasn't exactly sure what he said:

Donna: I'm sorry, Babe.  I didn't quite hear that.
Mikaela: Tor-teee-ya.  That's what I said.

Maybe you had to be there, but we both started laughing.

Graemma got Mikaela a car bingo game which she decided to play on the way to church this morning.  She would tell us what pictures we needed to search for and then we'd help her locate them (stop sign, traffic light, train, no parking sign, lampost, etc).  At one point she said, "We still need to find the word."  Perplexed, we asked her to spell it so that we could understand what word she meant.  "F-R-E-E. We have to find that."

Chuckle.  Perhaps we should explain what a "free space" is on Bingo.

Standing on the train table Nicholas watched Mike walk upstairs.   "Da" he shouted repeatedly pointing toward the stairs.

Donna: Yes, Nicholas.  Where is Daddy?
Nicholas: Up

Driving home the other day, Nicholas was holding Mikaela's baby doll in the car and repeatedly said "Baby, baby, baby".  I think that's our first real word (English, anyway).

Exciting News... or Not...

Mommy:  Guess what?
Mikaela: What?
Mommy: I love you.
Mikaela:  Mom, that's not very exciting.

Mommy: You ready to go Nicholas?
Mikaela:  He's like, I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Aunt Amy: Mikaela you're so smart.
Mikaela:  Yeah, and so is Nicholas.
A:  Oh yeah, how do you know?
M: Well, 'cause he's my brother.

Car Ride Etiquette

When we arrived at church this morning, we heard Nicholas stir in the back.  We asked Mikaela if he had been asleep.  Her reply: "No, he wasn't because you two weren't being quiet."

Embarrassed by Her Parents

As we were piling into the car to run an errand or two, Mike was trying to pass something to me through his car window and pass was incomplete.  Mike and I laughed as a result, and I guess we were just tired because we continued to chuckle.  From the back seat we heard, "All right, guys.  That's enough."  Needless to say, that didn't help curb our laughter any.

So Proud

Perhaps this is TMI - especially for people without small children, but it was a funny conversation that I want to remember.

D: "Are you done?"
M: "No, I'm going poop."
D: "Oh good, I'm glad."
M:  "Are you so proud?"
D: "Yes.  So proud."

In Other News...

Mike and I were having dinner conversation while we sat down for a meal together.  We were talking about our days and whatnot.  Mikaela chimes in with, "So... I have a thumb."

The Power of Suggestion

Today Mike and I were hanging pictures in our upstairs room.  Mikaela was playing with toy cars while we worked.  Mike moved the step ladder to a particular spot in the room that was apparently in her way.  Pointing to another area of the room she said, "Daddy, you want to go over there."

Kiss the Boo Boo

Today while I was pulling the car into the garage, I slightly tapped the side mirror along Mike's workshop (don't worry, no damage) but I cringed as I did it.
Mikaela asks, "Mommy, car hurt?"
"Just a little.  It's okay."
"You kiss it, Mommy."

Teacher's Kid

The other night we were reading stories before bed and Mikaela takes the book she wants to her daddy then looks at me with a finger waving, "No questions, Mommy."

Sure is tough being a teacher's kid.

Mikaela Talks

After church I asked, "What did you learn about in church today?"  She replied, "Bible!"  She's already got her "Sunday School" answers ready.

She has learned to tell Cocoa "park it" before dinner.  Cocoa's not so thrilled.

Mikaela burped a letter of the alphabet.  Her father was so proud.  Mommy is now working on "Excuse me."

She was playing teacher and asked Mommy, "What letter this, Mommy?"
Mommy: "C"
Mikaela: "C - right."

Mikaela Talks

While reading books she identified a "Fire Truck, Whrrrr".  I won't tell her it was actually a dump truck.
